3 November 2017 Newsletter

Hi everyone,

Keep cool today! It’s forecast to be in the mid-20s today.

This is a busy time of year, with lots of events going on. Usually I would only send a newsletter out once a month or so, but there is so much happening in our communities.

Oral History Project
The second video is up on our website. http://sumnerbays.org.nz/sumner-redcliffs-oral-history-project/ This video is of Betty McKenzie’s World War 2 memories. You can find the video on YouTube by using this link: https://youtu.be/eJlnnbTVesU  Again, I’ve kept this video unlisted as it gives some control over the sharing of the video.

Bridge2Rocks TimeBank
Do you want to learn how to use Mail Chimp? Do you use it but want to learn how to use it more effectively? Got questions? Local Mt Pleasant resident and Mail Chimp Guru, Rosemary Neave, has kindly volunteered to run a tutorial. It will be held at the Mt Pleasant Community Centre, Thursday 9th November, 1.30pm – 2.30 / 3.00pm. Contact Jules at bridge2rocks@gmail.com or 027 739 1832 to register. This tutorial is free to TimeBank members but a koha is requested from non-members. I hear that the first tutorial, held on Thursday 2 November, was very successful.

Update from the Community Preparedness Project
The project kicked off with 23 residents attending Psychological First Aid training in late June. Since then we have had residents slowly but steadily signing up to christchurchgetsready database and we have a few new Street Coordinators and Area Coordinators sign up under Neighbourhood Support. Community Response Teams met for a shared learning day in September alongside CCC Civil Defence Emergency Management, Neighbourhood Support and Red Cross and feedback from this was extremely positive. We are now working through an Emergency Hub Guide, Emergency Hub kits and a community preparedness booklet for local residents, and Sumner is pulling together local schools / businesses and emergency services for some tsunami preparedness planning before their public meeting at the end of November.
