Coming up soon

Hello everyone,

There’s a few things coming up over the next few weeks and months to tell you about.

A Food Forest workshop is being facilitated by permaculture design expert Robina McCurdy at the Sumner-van Asch Community Garden on Tuesday 10 September from 8.45 am to 12 noon. Morning tea will be provided. http://gallery.mailchimp.com/646327c1d69038d30b8038d07/files/Invitationto_Food_Forest_workshop_1.pdf Full details in the linked flyer. This is a great opportunity to learn about food forests. Van Asch Deaf Education Centre has kindly allowed us to use some land for a food forest. RSVP to Bailey Peryman, pbperyman@gmail.com or phone 326-6927.

Port Hills MP Ruth Dyson is coming to visit Coffee & Conversation next week, Thursday 12 September, 10.30 am at Redcliffs Community Shed, 99c Main Road. Everyone is welcome to attend.
A Senior Chef course is coming up in Sumner for anyone living in the Port Hills area. The 8 week course will be held every Wednesday from 9am – 1pm from the 16th October to 11th December at the Sumner School New Hall kitchens. The course will be run by Karen Aitken for approximately 10 people. The free 8 week cooking course, for the 65 years and older, aims to improve your skills, confidence and motivation. Regular workshop hours are now happening at the Redcliffs Community Shed on Tuesdays 10 am – 3 pm and Thursdays 10 am – 3 pm. To ensure the safety of people using the workshops, we’re on the lookout for a few more experienced carpenters/mechanics/engineers or DIYers who know how to use the machinery we’ve got here who we can call upon to be Shed supervisors on a rostered basis. If you are interested, please let me know.

Regular Craft Workshops are now on in the arts & crafts room at the Shed. Wendy R and Wendy D are facilitating these. 10 am – 12 pm on Wednesdays, until the end of November.

Local Redcliffs artist Julia Holden is bringing to us an art course called The Artist’s Way. It will be held on Monday evenings from 7 – 9 pm, commencing on Monday 9 September and running for 12 weeks in the Redcliffs Community Shed. The cost is $150 for all 12 weeks or $20 per session.http://gallery.mailchimp.com/646327c1d69038d30b8038d07/files/Artist_Way_Flyer1.pdf
Our annual Senior Expo is being held on Friday 8 November from 12.30 – 2.30 pm at the Sumner Union Church complex. This event offers community groups, businesses, and agencies an opportunity to show local seniors what activities or services they have to offer. I am looking for one group to run a refreshments stand – you may like to use this as a fundraiser (I’m thinking gold coin donations for cups of tea or coffee, maybe, but I’m open to ideas). If your group would like to have a table at the event, please let me know. Several groups have already booked in – great stuff, folks!

Sumner Bays Union Trust’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 13 November 2013 at the Redcliffs Community Shed.

Our annual Community Carols will be held on Thursday 12 December 2013 on the grounds of Sumner School.

Warm regards,
Eddie Hayes
