Newsletter 25 June 2014

Hi everyone,

Hopefully everyone is coping with this winter so far. Long grey days can be a challenge when there are more than a couple of them in a row. There are some bright spots in the upcoming days and weeks to cheer people up.

Sumner Bays Union Trust is hosting one night of the Sumner Theatre Group’s 2014 Cabaret Show. Tickets are $25 and bookings are essential. You can book a table (most have 8 – 10 seats and two have up to 12 seats) or purchase individual tickets. Our night is Saturday 9 August, with the doors open from 7.15 pm, and the audience to be seated by 7.50 pm. It’s a fantastic event. Book your tickets now!!!

Sumner Environment Group is hosting a Sumner Coast Care Planting Day on Sunday June 29 from 10 am – 12 noon with a free BBQ and beach games following it. The Sumner Volunteer Awareness & Fire Station Open Day is being held on Sunday 29 June from 2 – 4 pm at the Fire Station. A range of local groups are taking part in this, including Sumner-van Asch Community Garden and the Bridge2Rocks Timebank for which Sumner Bays Union Trust has the privilege of being the umbrella organisation.

The Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board are presenting their Winter Blast. This is an afternoon of entertainment, music and refreshments for seniors starring world class entertainer Chris Powley and Skye Broberg’s Circus Spectacular Show. It’s on Thursday 3 July 1.30 – 3.30 pm at the Woolston Club on Hargood Street and bookings are essential – free admission. Ma Bell & Guests are holding a Cabaret La Vie on Saturday 12 July at 7.30 pm – bookings are essential and the doors open at 7 pm. Tickets are $30 and are available from Morgan & Page (Redcliffs) and Chrissie’s Label Clothing (Sumner).

The Shed’s opening hours have been extended to Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 am – 3 pm. The Shed’s Men’s Night is running every Wednesday night from 7 – 9.30 pm. The group is making rapid progress on the dinghy and looking for other projects to start once the dinghy is finished.

Everyone who is responsible for making purchases for projects under the auspices of Sumner Bays Union Trust – the end of our financial year is 30 June so if you have any receipts or invoices to give me, now is the time to send them my way.

Warm regards,

Eddie Hayes
