Sumner Bays Union Trust Newsletter

Friday 3 February 2012

Hello everyone,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year break,
notwithstanding the shaky start to the season.

_Redcliffs Community Shed _is due to open in the not too distant future in a
workshop on the property behind the Redcliffs Fish’n’chip shop building on
Main Road in the village. It is a great community project which could lead
to a mentoring programme with young people. To find out more, contact
Fletcher Stanton on 0800 234 565 or drop in to the Redcliffs Information
Centre.

_Mini Music Sumner _resumes on Tuesday 7 February in a new location at the
Sumner Community Centre (the old school hall) on Wiggins Street. It has a
new time of 10.30 am.
All pre-schoolers and their parents/caregivers are very welcome to attend
these music and movement sessions with Cathy White our tutor. Both sessions
are followed by a play time and morning tea. At Sumner there is an outdoor
area where children can play. The cost per child is $3 and per family for
two or more children is $5. Contact _Cathy White_ on 326-7576 for further
information.
_Mini Music Redcliffs _has resumed and runs every Thursday of term time at
the Redcliffs Union Church, 9.30 am.

_Coffee & Conversation _is running again, every Thursday at 10.30 am – 12
noon at the Redcliffs Union Church. We provide good coffee and tea and the
people provide great company. It attracts a range of people from around your
community.

_Redcliffs Craft Group_ has resumed for the year at 1 Bayview Road, Moncks
Bay. It runs every Thursday afternoon from 1 – 3 pm. It is led by Win who is
a very skilled craftswoman and the atmosphere is very warm and friendly.

_Rockers of Ages Choir _resumed on Wednesday 1 February at 10.30 am – 12.30
pm at the Sumner Union Church. This is run in partnership with The Muse
Community Music Trust and directed by experienced tutors Nikki Berry and
Gary Easterbrook. This is open to all ages and everyone, regardless of
ability, is welcome to join.

12pm (next gathering Saturday February 4 2012)
Contact Bailey for further information regarding the gardens and the wider
Local Food Project on [3]pbperyman@gmail.comor ring 021 122 7638. The
Redcliffs Community Garden is located behind the Union Church on Augusta
Street and the Van Asch Garden is located within Van Asch Deaf Education
Centre at its old school garden site. Many thanks to the Union Parish and
Van Asch Deaf Education Centre for generously allowing us to use their land
for community gardening. I went along and visited the Van Asch garden on
Tuesday morning and was impressed with the enthusiasm and the welcome I got
from the gardeners.

_Sumner Silver Band_ has resumed practices in the Redcliffs Union Church on
Thursday evenings from 7 pm. They welcome new members as well as members of
the community who might like to listen. _Contact_: Peter Croft 384-9534

_Community Variety Concert: _We are considering putting on a concert of some
sort sometime over the next few months. The idea is that this would provide
an opportunity for the Rockers of Ages Choir to perform as well as some
other local acts. If you are interesting in helping with this project
(performing even), please let us know. It’s just an idea at present but from
ideas come action.

_Sumner Bays Union Trust _provides activities and services that focus on
meeting the needs of the whole communities of Sumner and Redcliffs. We
welcome everyone in the spirit of inclusiveness. It is a registered
charitable trust and our board members are Denny Richardson (Chair), Lydia
MacKinnon (Secretary), Bruce Reilly (Treasurer), Malcolm Moore, Mary Moore,
Vicki Hyde and Peter Croft. The Trust employs three staff members – myself,
Fletcher Stanton as Redcliffs Community Information Centre coordinator and
Bailey Peryman as Local Food Project Coordinator. We aim to have as broad a
representation of the community as possible on the trust board.

If you have any ideas for future projects that Sumner Bays Union Trust can
support, please let us know.

Warm regards,
Eddie Hayes
Community Development Worker
