The Sumner Bays Union Trust Story

The Sumner Bays Union Trust is a registered trust and was set up to manage programmes for the older members of the community in 2008 by the Redcliffs Union Church. The trust is membership driven organisation. All volunteers are members of the Trust while being involved with their particular group as a volunteer or coordinator. The Trust is the tenant signing any of the leases if these groups need to lease land as four of them have. The Trust’s Coordinator and Board ensure all business support requirements of the Trust and its members, such as insurance, health and safety, advises on and administers their finances and applies for funding where needed, are provided. It liaises with council, and provides communications through Facebook and this website. It has now grown into a community organisation that facilitates and assists with community programmes. They currently include the now well established elderly support programme which employs an Older Persons Coordinator, the Sumner Silver Band, a number of community gardens and orchard, a nature preservation project, Te Reo lessons, and preschool play groups in the Sumner to Heathcote areas.
